Note from Kelly:
Just wanted to give you all an update on Willie and some thoughts on Pugtoberfest.
After the Pug Party ended, I dropped by the Emergency Hospital to check on Willie. The good news was that none of his vital organs were damaged so no problems there. The bad news was his pelvis was broken in three places. It would require surgery to repair at a cost of approximately $3500. Naturally, I was devastated as NMPR doesn’t have that type of resources. Then the hospital person told me that there was someone who was willing to pay for the surgery! They only had one condition: that I would help them place Willie when he was well (as if that’s a problem). I cannot tell you how overwhelmed I was by the kindness of this anonymous benefactor.
As I think back over the day, I am amazed at what took place. While I was gone taking care of Willie, my niece, Marissa, rallied the troops. Smoochie’s mom had already started helping with the Silent Auction. Deb and Nancy volunteered to assist with the processing of all the Silent Auction items. Barbara, one of our longtime attendees, took over the announcing of the events, did an incredible job, and now has a position for life. Pugtoberfest continued on. All the activities and events took place and were even on time!
Of course, there is a core group who assist me in this passion of mine.
* My niece, Marissa, who is an organizational genius.
* My niece and nephew in law, Becky and Garret, who so ably handle the check in table and gate.
* My brother in law, David, who is in charge of haulage and pretty much everything else - he hauls all our supplies to the event and then hauls it all back to his house for storage, takes pictures, keeps up the webpage and supports all we do.
* My niece, Jenna, who is always there for moral support.
* Last of all, my wonderful, handsome great nephews, Josiah and Dylan, who bring such joy everywhere they go.
So even though we were faced with the enormous challenge of Willie’s situation, blessings abounded. More Silent Auction items than ever, wonderful volunteers stepping in to help and a fantastic day for everyone.
In closing, thank you all for your incredible support and the best Pugtoberfest ever!
Kelly
